Key takeaways

  • As of October 31, 2026, Anthropic's help center lists Claude Design on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise plans.
  • There is no separate price: it uses the same shared usage limits as the rest of Claude, and paid plans can add usage credits.
  • The standalone site at claude.ai/design closes on December 14, 2026, and projects should be moved or exported before then.

Claude Design is Anthropic's tool for making designs, interactive prototypes, slides and one-pagers by chatting with Claude. As of October 31, 2026, it is available on every Claude plan, from Free to Enterprise, and it costs nothing extra: Anthropic's help center says it draws on the same usage limits as the rest of Claude.

That is a change from launch. Anthropic Labs introduced Claude Design on April 17, 2026 as a research preview for paid subscribers only. It also changed shape: it is now a template for artifacts inside Claude, not only a separate site.

What Claude Design is

You describe what you want, and Claude builds it on a canvas you can edit directly. Anthropic's launch post says it was powered by Claude Opus 4.7 and aimed at designs, prototypes, slides and one-pagers. The help center says you can import your company's design system, so new work follows your colors, type and components. Import sources include a GitHub repository, design files, raw uploads, or a local codebase using the /design-sync command in Claude Code.

You can finish a design in several ways. The help center lists exports to .zip, PDF, PPTX, Google Slides and standalone HTML, plus several third-party tools, and a handoff to Claude Code. Designs start private. You can share them with people who can view, comment or edit.

Who can use Claude Design

As of October 31, 2026, the help center lists these plans:

Plan Claude Design Starting price (claude.com/pricing, October 31, 2026)
Free Yes, on by default $0
Pro Yes, on by default $20 a month billed monthly, $17 a month billed annually
Max Yes, on by default $100 a month
Ultra Yes, on by default $200 a month
Team Yes, on by default Standard seat $25 a month billed monthly, $20 billed annually
Enterprise On by default from October 15, 2026 $20 a seat a month billed annually, 20-seat minimum, plus usage at API rates

Enterprise owners could switch it on earlier in Organization settings. Anthropic's admin guide covers the toggles for Team and Enterprise. We covered the Ultra tier, formerly Max 20x, in Anthropic renames Claude Max 20x to Ultra.

You can start from a normal chat, by choosing Output > Design in the message box, from the Artifacts tab, or with /design in Claude Code. On iOS and Android you can ask for a design in any conversation and view it full screen in the Artifacts tab. Sharing settings have to be changed on web or desktop.

How much Claude Design costs

There is no separate price. The help center says Design activity comes from the same shared pool as the rest of Claude, including Claude Code, so there is no separate Claude Design allowance. Large projects and many iterations use more of it.

When you reach your limit, Claude Design is unavailable until the limit resets, unless you have turned on usage credits. Credits let paid plans keep working, billed at pay-as-you-go rates. The help center page does not list a per-design price or a usage cap in numbers, and neither does the pricing page.

The standalone site closes on December 14, 2026

The original site at claude.ai/design is being retired. Anthropic's move guide says it stays usable until December 14, 2026. After that it is read-only and you cannot start new projects there. New designs, design systems and slide decks are made as artifacts in Claude.

What to do before then:

  • Move design systems. One move brings over every design system in your organization.
  • Move projects. Only a project's owner can do it, and the move cannot be undone. Anthropic says it is rolling out gradually to paid plans.
  • Download a copy. Open the project, click Share, choose Project HTML (for a slide deck, More formats and apps), keep Project archive selected and click Export. The .zip is free and does not count toward usage limits.

Chats and comments do not carry over, and public project links stop working when the standalone site closes. Organizations with zero data retention cannot move projects, and HIPAA-ready organizations cannot right now.

What we don't know

Anthropic's help pages give no calendar date for their latest edits, only "Updated today", so we cannot say when Free access began. They also give no numeric usage limits, so how many designs a Free account can make before it hits a limit is not published. Check your own plan's limits in Claude before relying on it for a deadline.

Frequently asked questions

It is included on the Free plan, according to Anthropic's help center as of October 31, 2026. Free usage is limited, and Claude Design is unavailable once you reach your limit until it resets.

Nothing extra. Design activity counts against the same usage limits as the rest of Claude. Paid plans can enable usage credits to keep working past those limits, billed at pay-as-you-go rates.

Is Claude Design closing?

Only the standalone site at claude.ai/design, which closes on December 14, 2026. Claude Design continues inside Claude as a template for artifacts.
