No, Claude Opus 5.5 is not free. As of October 30, 2026, Anthropic's pricing page shows Opus as "No" on the Free plan and "Yes" on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free users get Sonnet. Developers can also pay per token through the API, at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens.
The pricing page lists "Opus" and "Sonnet" without version numbers. Anthropic's models overview names Opus 5.5 as the current Opus model and recommends it as the starting point for most API workloads, so we read the Opus row as Opus 5.5. Anthropic's own wording on the pricing page does not say so, and plans can change.
What each plan gets
| Plan | Price | Opus | Sonnet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | No | Yes |
| Pro | $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually | Yes | Yes |
| Max | From $100 a month | Yes | Yes |
| Team | Standard seat $20 a seat annual, $25 monthly; Premium seat $100 annual, $125 monthly | Yes | Yes |
| Enterprise | $20 a seat billed annually, 20-seat minimum, plus usage | Yes | Yes |
The cheapest way to use Opus in the Claude app is Pro. Anthropic says Pro gives at least 5 times more usage per 5-hour session than Free. Max offers 5x or 20x more usage than Pro. Enterprise adds usage on top of the seat price, and the page says cost "scales with model and task." For how limits and resets work, see our guide to Claude usage limits.

Which paid option fits
If you only want Opus for chat, Pro at $20 a month is the entry point, or $17 a month if you pay $200 up front for the year. If you hit limits, Max starts at $100 a month and offers 5x or 20x the usage of Pro. The pricing page also says Max includes $100 to $200 a month in API credits.
For a team, a Standard seat is $20 a seat on annual billing or $25 monthly, and a Premium seat gives 5 times the usage of a Standard seat at $100 on annual billing or $125 monthly. Enterprise starts at $20 a seat with a 20-seat minimum, and adds usage charges that depend on the model and the task.
If you build software rather than chat, the API is separate from these plans. You pay per token, and the pricing page lists a 50% discount for batch processing.
