Key takeaways
- On October 30, 2026 Anthropic renamed Max 5x to Max ($100 a month) and Max 20x to Ultra ($200 a month).
- Ultra has no 5-hour limit for verified accounts, 10x Pro usage every week and $200 a month in API credits.
- Max keeps a 5x Pro limit and includes $100 a month in API credits.
Anthropic renamed its two top Claude subscriptions on October 30, 2026. The $100 a month plan, formerly Max 5x, is now called Max, and the $200 a month plan, formerly Max 20x, is now called Ultra, according to Claude's pricing page and the company's announcement on X. Ultra also drops the 5-hour usage limit for verified accounts.
The Claude Max plan price has not changed. What changed is the name, the Ultra limits and the API credits that come with each plan.
What Ultra gets over Max
As of October 30, 2026, the pricing page lists these differences:
| Pro | Max | Ultra | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per month | $20 monthly, or $17 with annual billing | $100 | $200 |
| Usage every 5 hours | 1x | 5x Pro | No 5-hour limit for verified accounts |
| Usage every week | 1x | 5x Pro | 10x Pro |
| Monthly API credits | None | $100 | $200 |
The page says Ultra is "for your longest tasks." Max includes Fable up to half of your weekly limit, and the same Fable line appears for Ultra. On Pro, Fable is paid for with usage credits.
What the 5-hour limit change means
Claude limits usage in two windows, one that resets every 5 hours and one that resets every week. On Ultra, verified accounts no longer have the 5-hour window, so only the weekly cap applies. The page doesn't say what makes an account verified. It links to a separate page on verified accounts, which we have not summarized here.
Prices and what we don't know
Prices on the page don't include tax, and Anthropic says plans and prices can change at its discretion. The page doesn't say whether people already on Max 5x or Max 20x keep their current limits or move to the new ones, or whether anyone pays a different amount. Anthropic's own plan comparison is the place to check before changing a subscription. For a wider look at what each Claude tier costs, see Claude Enterprise pricing.
