Key takeaways

  • Siri AI is in beta since September 14, 2026; Apple lists no price, applies daily usage limits and says expanded access will cost a fee later.
  • OpenAI's pricing page lists ChatGPT at $0 for Free, $8 for Go, $20 for Plus and from $100 for Pro, as of November 5, 2026.
  • Neither company publishes a head-to-head benchmark, so quality can't be ranked from the docs.

Siri AI vs ChatGPT comes down to where you want the help. Siri AI is Apple's rebuilt assistant that works inside iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro and can see your messages, email, photos and screen. ChatGPT is OpenAI's chatbot, sold in plans from free to $100 a month and up. This comparison is based on Apple's Siri AI launch post and OpenAI's pricing pages, read on November 5, 2026.

This comparison is based on the products' docs and published results, not on our own hands-on testing. Neither company publishes a head-to-head benchmark, so we do not rank them on answer quality.

Two caveats on the pricing numbers. The $8, $20 and $100 figures come from OpenAI's Codex-focused pricing page, which is the one we could read in full. OpenAI's separate ChatGPT plans page showed no dollar amounts when we opened it. Check it before you pay.

What Siri AI does that ChatGPT does not

Apple says Siri AI is conversational and uses personal context across messages, email and photos. It also has onscreen awareness, so it can act on what you are looking at, and it answers current questions from the web. Apple's example is adding a team's home games to your calendar.

It is built into the system. You can start it with "Hey Siri," the side button, the Dynamic Island or Spotlight, and there is a Siri app with conversation history that syncs through iCloud.

Apple says its Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, and that personal data handled there is "not stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else." That is Apple's claim. We have no independent audit to cite.

What ChatGPT does that Siri AI does not

ChatGPT is a standalone product with plans you can compare. OpenAI's plans page says Free includes unlimited text chats with GPT-6, subject to abuse guardrails, with capped image creation and voice. Go adds more messages, uploads, images, voice and memory, and the page says it may include ads. Plus adds advanced reasoning models and more complex image creation. Pro adds three usage tiers, Pro reasoning and unlimited voice and images.

ChatGPT also does not depend on your hardware. Siri AI needs a recent Apple device, such as an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 16 or later, and up to 14 GB of free storage on the newest models, according to Apple's Apple Intelligence page.

How much each one costs

Apple lists no price for Siri AI as of November 3, 2026. It applies daily usage limits and says expanded access will be available for a fee later, with no amount and no date. Our report on the Siri AI release date and whether it is free has the details.

ChatGPT has a free tier and paid plans. For what Go gets and what OpenAI leaves unpublished, see our ChatGPT Go price and limits article.

Can you use both?

Apple's Apple Intelligence page lists a "ChatGPT extension" among features for iOS 26 and later. It adds that the integration is available "only in regions where the ChatGPT app and service is available." It does not list the extension among the iOS 27 features, and the Siri AI pages we read do not mention ChatGPT. So we can't say how the two work together in Siri AI. Apple's page does not say.

How to try Siri AI

Update to the 27 release of your operating system, then go to Settings, Siri, and tap Try Siri AI (Beta). Apple says a waitlist can apply during high demand. The steps and fixes are in our guide on how to turn on Siri AI.

What we don't know yet

No independent test compares the two on accuracy or speed. Apple has not said what Siri AI will cost after the beta, or when the beta ends. OpenAI's plan pages leave out some limits, including for Go. Watch for Apple's pricing terms for expanded access.
