Key takeaways
- Alexa+ is free for Amazon Prime members and costs $19.99 a month for everyone else, per Amazon as of October 28, 2026.
- Non-members can use a limited text-based Alexa+ chat for free on Alexa.com and in the Alexa app.
- Amazon's October 28, 2026 Echo launch includes the Echo Dot at $99.99 and Echo Show 16 from $499.99, all with Alexa+.
Alexa Plus is free if you have an Amazon Prime membership, and $19.99 a month if you don't, according to Amazon's Alexa+ announcement, last updated July 21, 2026. So whether Alexa Plus is free depends on one thing: whether you pay for Prime. This is the Alexa+ cost as of October 28, 2026, in the United States.
Amazon's Echo launch post from the same day repeats the Prime link. It says Alexa+ is "included with a Prime membership" and that every device in the new lineup comes with the latest version of Alexa.
How much Alexa Plus costs: free with Prime
| Who you are | Alexa+ price (as of October 28, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Amazon Prime member | Free, no extra charge |
| Not a Prime member | $19.99 a month for unlimited access |
| Not a Prime member, free option | A limited, text-based "Alexa+ chat" on Alexa.com and in the Alexa app |
Amazon's page on getting Alexa+ with Prime says Alexa+ became available to all U.S. customers in February 2026, with free access for Prime members. During early access in 2025, Amazon had already said Prime members would get it at no cost.
The free chat for non-members has usage limits. Amazon's page does not say what the limits are. It describes the free option as text chat on the web and in the app, not a free Alexa+ on your speaker.
How to turn on Alexa+ if you have Prime
Amazon says Prime members can say "Alexa, upgrade to Alexa+" to an Alexa device, or sign in to their Amazon account at Alexa.com. Without Prime, the same page points to Amazon.com/AlexaPlus, where it mentions a free 30-day Prime trial for eligible customers. Amazon does not list the current Prime price on the pages we could read, so check it before you sign up.
Which devices work with Alexa+
Amazon's announcement page does not give one full compatibility list. It shows Alexa+ on the Echo Show 11 and Echo Show 8, and names the Echo Show 21, Echo Show 10, Echo Spot, Echo Auto, Echo Dot Kids and Fire TV. It also lists the Alexa app on iOS and Android, and Alexa.com. Amazon's Bose announcement adds that Alexa+ is free with Prime on a list of Bose smart speakers and soundbars, and $19.99 a month for non-members.
On October 28, 2026, Amazon launched a new set of Echo hardware that ships with Alexa+. Prices from the launch post:
| Device | Price on October 28, 2026 |
|---|---|
| Echo Dot (next generation) | $99.99 |
| Echo Studio with Home Camera | $249.99 |
| Echo Studio (without camera) | $219.99 |
| Echo Time | $199.99 |
| Echo Show 16 | From $499.99 (preorder, with $100 off per Amazon) |
The Alexa Photo Frame is also in the lineup, but the post gives no price. The new devices cost money, but Alexa+ on them is covered by Prime like everywhere else. For older Echo models, check the Alexa app, because Amazon's pages do not list every supported device.
Where Alexa+ is available
Amazon says Alexa+ is available to all customers in the U.S. and Canada. Early access has opened in Brazil, the UK, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria and France, and features vary by region. Prices elsewhere can differ, and we did not confirm them from Amazon's own pages for this article.
What to watch
Amazon sets the price and the Prime terms, and both have changed since early access. Check Amazon's Alexa+ page before you pay, since Amazon's help pages were not loading when we checked.
