Key takeaways

  • Paid Grok plans share one weekly usage pool across Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build, replacing per-product daily limits, as of November 1, 2026.
  • xAI lists plan size only as multiples of Plus: Premium 4x, Super 15x and Ultra 50x, with no message or token counts.
  • At the limit, paid features pause until reset unless you buy extra credits (minimum $5), upgrade or turn on Auto Top Up.

The Grok weekly limit is real. Paid Grok users now draw on one shared pool of usage that resets once a week, and it replaces the separate daily limits per product, according to xAI's Grok FAQ. The FAQ says the change was "rolling out in June 2026." This is how it works as of November 1, 2026.

xAI does not publish the size of the pool in messages or tokens. It gives multipliers instead, and a few rules for what happens when the pool runs out.

How the Grok weekly limit works

Each paid seat gets one weekly pool of included usage. You spend it on Chat, Imagine, Voice, Build or other Grok products, in any mix you like. Products cost different amounts because they use different amounts of compute. The FAQ says a chat message uses little, while a high-quality video or a long coding task uses much more.

The pool also covers Grok models inside Cursor and Grok Bot. The X Subscription pricing page says Grok Bot draws from the same pool and is not a separate extra one.

The FAQ does not name a reset day. It says the pool resets on a schedule shown in the Usage tab in Settings.

How big the weekly limit is on each plan

xAI states plan size only as a multiple of the Plus plan, which it calls "base." The numbers below are list prices as of November 1, 2026, excluding sales tax, from the pricing page.

Plan Monthly Annual Weekly usage included
Free $0 $0 Limited, separate from the weekly pool
Plus $8 $80 Base
Premium $30 $300 4x base
Super $100 $1,000 15x base
Ultra $200 $2,000 50x base

These plans come from The X Subscription, which xAI announced on October 12, 2026. The announcement does not give weekly figures either. For the plans themselves, see our explainer on whether Grok is free.

How to check your Grok usage

Open Settings, then Usage, on the web or in the mobile app. The FAQ says the page shows the percentage of your pool used, a breakdown by product (API, Build, Chat, Imagine and Voice), your reset date and time, and any extra usage credit balance.

What happens when you hit the weekly limit

Paid features pause until the reset. The FAQ says hitting the limit "is not a hard stop," and gives three ways to keep going:

  • Buy Extra Usage Credits. They are added immediately and used only after the weekly allowance runs out. The minimum purchase is $5, made from the Usage tab on the web. The FAQ says mobile purchases will come later.
  • Upgrade to a higher plan. xAI says a bigger plan gives more weekly usage per dollar than repeated top-ups.
  • Turn on Auto Top Up, which adds credits when your balance runs low. You set the amount and a monthly cap.

Credits are priced at standard rates, so each action costs more than it does from the included pool. The FAQ says top-up credits expire one year after purchase unless stated otherwise. The pricing page gives no expiry date.

Free Chat and Voice limits stay separate and reset on their own schedule. xAI gives no numbers for them. One more limit: 720p video falls back to 480p once you reach the 720p cap for your tier, and the FAQ does not give the cap.

The monthly spending cap is a different limit

Extra usage has its own ceiling. xAI's spending caps page says a monthly cap limits how much paid extra usage you can use in a calendar month. Adding money to your balance does not raise it.

The order is simple: your weekly pool goes first, then your prepaid balance. Extra usage stops when the balance is empty or the monthly cap is reached, whichever comes first. Auto Top-up is off unless you turn it on. Credit, Auto Top-up and the cap are managed under "Additional usage credits" on grok.com/dashboard.

What xAI has not said

The weekly allowance in messages, tokens or dollars is not published, and neither is the free-tier limit. If you plan to subscribe for heavy use, check the Usage tab after a normal week before paying for a higher tier. If you decide to leave, our guide covers how to cancel a Grok subscription.

Once a week. xAI does not name a fixed day. Your reset date and time are shown under Settings, then Usage, on web or mobile.

What happens when I hit the Grok weekly limit?

Paid features pause until the reset. You can buy Extra Usage Credits, upgrade to a higher plan or turn on Auto Top Up. Free Chat and Voice limits still apply on their own schedule.

xAI does not say. It lists plans as multiples of the Plus plan: Premium 4x, Super 15x and Ultra 50x. A chat message uses little of the pool, while video and long coding tasks use much more.

Do Grok extra usage credits expire?

The Grok FAQ says top-up credits expire one year after purchase unless stated otherwise. The minimum purchase is $5, made on the web.
