Key takeaways
- Cancel Grok where you bought it: grok.com under Settings, then Billing, Apple, Google Play or X.
- xAI's FAQ lists four plans: SuperGrok, SuperGrok Heavy, X Premium and X Premium+.
- Refunds for web and Google Play go through xAI's refund form; Apple handles App Store refunds.
Grok how to cancel subscription has one rule: cancel it in the place where you bought it. According to xAI's Grok FAQ, a plan bought on the website is managed at grok.com under Settings, then Billing. An iPhone purchase is cancelled through Apple, an Android purchase through Google Play, and Grok access that comes with X Premium is handled by X. This guide covers each route, as of October 31, 2026.
The reason there are several routes is that Grok is sold in more than one way. The FAQ names four plans: SuperGrok, SuperGrok Heavy, X Premium and X Premium+. Deleting the app or the account on another platform does not stop a charge. xAI's FAQ says a subscription "is tied to the account you bought it with", so the first step is to work out where you paid. If you are still comparing plans, our Is Grok free? article has the prices.
First, find out where you subscribed
Check your bank or card statement, or the receipt email. The billing party tells you which route to use:
| You paid | Cancel with |
|---|---|
| grok.com (card) | grok.com, Settings, Billing |
| Apple App Store | Apple subscriptions in iPhone or iPad Settings |
| Google Play | Google Play subscriptions |
| X (X Premium or X Premium+) | X's Help Center, not Grok |
How to cancel on grok.com
- Sign in at grok.com with the account that holds the plan.
- Open Settings, then Billing. xAI also gives a direct link: grok.com/?_s=billing while you are logged in.
- Use the manage subscription option to cancel.
If the Manage Subscription button does not open, xAI says ad blockers and other extensions can block it. Try a private window or another browser. If it still fails, xAI says support can escalate the cancellation to its billing team.
How to cancel on iPhone or iPad
Apple processes these purchases, so the cancellation happens in Apple's settings, not in the Grok app. Per Apple's instructions:
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the Grok subscription.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll down to find it.
Apple says that if there is no Cancel button, or you see a red expiration message, the subscription is already cancelled. For a free trial, Apple advises cancelling at least 24 hours before it ends.
How to cancel on Android
- Open your subscriptions page in Google Play.
- Select the Grok subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Google says that after you cancel, you can keep using the subscription for the time you already paid for. It also says uninstalling an app does not cancel the subscription. We could not find a statement of what happens to access after cancelling on grok.com or the App Store, so check the date shown on your billing page.
If Grok came with X Premium
X Premium and X Premium+ are separate subscriptions from SuperGrok. The FAQ says X Premium+ access applies to the account linked with your X account, and that X handles refunds where the law requires it. Cancel through X's Help Center. We could not open X's help pages in this run, so the exact steps are not listed here.
Refunds after cancelling
Cancelling stops future charges. It is not a refund. xAI's FAQ sets out who handles refunds:
- Web or Google Play: SpaceXSI handles refunds, requested through the xAI Refund Request form. Each request is reviewed, and xAI says approved refunds usually take 5 to 10 business days.
- Apple App Store: Apple handles all refunds.
- API credits: non-refundable. Top-up credits expire one year after purchase unless stated otherwise.
- A subscription fee that was never charged cannot be refunded.
Check for a yearly SuperGrok Heavy charge
xAI notes that a large unexpected invoice is often a SuperGrok Heavy yearly subscription, not API usage. Look at your subscription history before disputing a charge.
