Key takeaways

  • Cursor announced Build Live Apps on November 5 for paid plans with cloud agents enabled.
  • A cloud agent scaffolds the app, provisions Postgres, adds Cursor sign-in and hosting, then publishes it to a domain you choose.
  • Publishing is blocked until security checks pass, and team admins can review, approve or unpublish apps.

Cursor now lets you build and host web apps without leaving the editor. The feature, called Build Live Apps, was announced in Cursor's November 5 changelog and works through the company's cloud agents on all paid plans that have cloud agents turned on.

You start a cloud agent and say you want to build an app. Cursor scaffolds the web app, sets up a Postgres database when one is needed, puts authentication behind Cursor sign-in and provisions hosting. If the app needs an outside system such as a data warehouse, the agent asks you for the secrets it requires. When you publish, you pick a unique domain and get a live link.

Checks before anything goes live

On publish, Cursor runs deterministic and agent-based checks for problems such as secrets left in app files and exposed credentials. If a check fails, the agent says what to fix. Cursor says nothing goes live until the checks pass and you explicitly publish.

Team admins can see every app and its secrets, add their own security review rules, approve a publish the review blocked, and unpublish any app.

Who can see an app

Apps can be shared with specific people, groups or a whole team, behind Cursor sign-in. Individual plans can also share an app publicly. You can also create a Cursor API key so scripts or Grok Bot can use an app.

Apps can start from new or existing repositories on Cursor Origin and GitHub. GitLab support is listed as coming soon.

What we don't know

The changelog gives no price or usage limits for hosted apps, does not name the hosting provider, and gives no detail on the database beyond Postgres. Read the changelog for any updates before building on it. For plan costs, see our other Cursor coverage, such as Cursor vs VS Code compared.
