Key takeaways

  • Grok Bot is downloaded from x.ai/bot and signs in with a Cursor account, not a separate login, per xAI's docs as of November 2, 2026.
  • Access comes with The X Subscription (Premium, Super, Ultra), a legacy Cursor plan, a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ plan, or a Grok Business seat.
  • Tagging @bot on X is not yet available for accounts in Australia, the UK, the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway.

Grok Bot is xAI's app for persistent AI teammates, and you get it by downloading the desktop or phone app from x.ai/bot and signing in with a Cursor account. This guide on how to use Grok Bot follows the steps in xAI's Grok Bot docs, as read on November 2, 2026.

You need a plan that includes it, such as Premium, Super or Ultra on The X Subscription, or a linked SuperGrok or X Premium+ plan. If you already hit limits in Grok, see our explainer on the Grok weekly limit, because the usage pool is shared.

What Grok Bot is

The overview page describes Bots as persistent AI teammates. Each has a name, a job, and context that builds over time. A Bot works on a cloud computer with a browser, a filesystem and a terminal, so work continues when your laptop is closed.

The docs say Grok Bot is a separate app from the Grok app. It signs in with your Cursor account, and Grok app limits do not apply to it.

What you need first

  • A supported device. Desktop: macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows (x64 and Arm64) or Linux (x64 and Arm64). Phone: iOS 18 or later, or Android 9 or later.
  • Access through one of these routes, as of November 2, 2026:
Route How you get Grok Bot
The X Subscription (Premium, Super, Ultra) Included. No extra steps.
Legacy Cursor plan Included with every paid individual plan and Cursor Teams.
SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+ Link the subscription when the app asks.
Self-serve Grok Business seat Choose Sign in with Grok and use the account that holds the seat.

Usage resets weekly. Full details are on the plans and billing page, which we did not read. If your account uses Privacy Mode (Legacy), the app will ask you to switch, because Grok Bot needs cloud data storage.

How to install Grok Bot

  1. Download the app from x.ai/bot. If you have dashboard access, you can use the Download Grok Bot row on the Grok Bot page of the Cursor dashboard instead. Without dashboard access, ask your admin for the link.
  2. Install the version for your system. The app checks for updates on its own.
  3. On a phone, install Grok Bot from the App Store or Google Play.

How to sign in and get access

  1. On the welcome screen, choose Sign in and finish authentication in your browser.
  2. Use your Cursor account. Grok Bot has no separate login. If your company uses single sign-on, sign in through its normal flow.
  3. If your access comes from SuperGrok or X Premium+, link it. On a phone, tap Link Grok Account, finish linking, then tap Finished Linking? Refresh My Status. On desktop, go to Settings, then Usage & Billing, and choose Get Access with Grok.

The FAQ says a link is permanent. You cannot unlink it yourself, and Grok Bot uses whichever source gives more weekly usage, not both.

How to create your first Bot

  1. After signing in, click through the short intro. The app creates a Bot named Grok Bot and opens a chat with it.
  2. To add another Bot, click + in the sidebar, choose Create a Bot, enter a name and click Create.
  3. In the first message, state the Bot's main job and how it should work. The docs give the example of a product-performance Bot that investigates with your observability tools, keeps evidence apart from guesses and never changes production settings.
  4. To rename a Bot, click its name at the top of the chat.

How to give it a first task

Type in the composer, or start voice input with Cmd/Ctrl+D on desktop or Start dictation on mobile. The docs suggest attaching a document and asking for a five-bullet summary with dates, decisions and open questions in separate sections, with citations, and telling the Bot not to change the source file.

If a task needs a login, the Bot uses a saved login from Vault or a connected password manager, or asks you through a Secure Form. The docs say it never sees your password. For single sign-on, passkeys or other steps it cannot finish, click Open computer, complete the step and hand control back.

How to use Grok Bot from X

You can start work by tagging @bot in a post or reply on X. Your main Bot picks up the task and @bot replies publicly with a short confirmation. The work and results appear in the Bot's conversation in the app. The tag on X page lists what you need:

  1. On grok.com, go to Settings, then Account, and select Connect next to the X account. Use the same Grok account that has Grok Bot access.
  2. Have Grok Bot access and at least one Bot you own. Bots shared with you cannot take tagged requests.
  3. Use an X account based in an eligible region.

Tagging is not yet available for X accounts based in Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway. @bot uses the country X has on record, not your location or VPN. If X lists only a broader region or no country, @bot does not reply.

@bot also stays silent if the post tags @grok too, if the post or a quoted post contains a video or GIF, or if your weekly usage is used up. A reply saying "Sign up for Grok Bot" means no Grok account is connected to that X account. A reply saying Grok Bot isn't set up yet means you have no Bot.

Limits to know about

  • Each Bot runs one computer-use task on its screen at a time.
  • All your Bots share one cloud computer, including files, browser sessions and logins. The FAQ says separate Bots are not a security boundary.
  • Sites can block automation or ask for a CAPTCHA or human step. The Bot hands those to you.
  • There is no model picker. Grok Bot chooses a backend model for each task.

If setup fails

The docs say to fully quit and reopen the app. If that does not help, use the troubleshooting page linked from the get started guide, which we did not read.

Frequently asked questions

Is Grok Bot the same as the Grok app?

No. The docs say they are separate apps. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account, and Grok app limits do not apply to it.

How do I get access to Grok Bot?

Access is included with Premium, Super and Ultra on The X Subscription and with paid legacy Cursor plans. You can also link SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy or X Premium+, or sign in with a Grok Business seat.

Which devices run Grok Bot?

Desktop apps exist for macOS, Windows and Linux, and phone apps for iOS 18 or later and Android 9 or later. Bots run on a cloud computer, so tasks continue when the app is closed.

Why does @bot not reply on X?

Common causes are an X account in an unsupported region, a post that also tags @grok, a video or GIF in the post, an unlinked Grok account, or used-up weekly usage.
