A few weeks later the Claude 5.5 family followed: Opus 5.5 on September 22, Sonnet 5.5 on September 28 and Haiku 5.5 on October 7. ClaudeGPT Si's recap of those releases places Fable 5.1 at the start of that run.

What shipped on September 1

The release notes describe Fable 5.1 as the successor to Fable 5 for long-running agentic coding, knowledge work and research. On launch day it came with a 1M token context window, up to 128k output tokens and adaptive thinking that is always on. It went live on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry, and in the Claude apps for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users.

Mythos 5.1 arrived the same day. Anthropic says it is the same model as Fable 5.1 with different safeguards, offered only through trusted access programs.

Is there a Fable 5.5 or Fable 6 date?

Not as of October 28, 2026. Anthropic has not announced a next Fable model on the pages we checked. The models overview says Fable 5.1 will not retire before September 1, 2027, which tells you how long it stays available, not when a successor comes.
