Amazon said on October 29 that Alexa for Shopping, the AI assistant inside the Amazon Shopping app, can now handle more than 100 common shopping actions by conversation. Amazon's announcement says it is available now to all U.S. customers.

The change moves the assistant from finding and comparing products to managing your account. You can ask it to do things like "Skip my next delivery" instead of digging through menus.

What Alexa for Shopping can now do

Amazon groups the new actions into five areas:

  • Lists and registries: create and edit lists, move items between them, and review baby and wedding registries.
  • Subscribe & Save: skip or pause deliveries and change how often they arrive.
  • Prime and other subscriptions: check benefits, see savings and find renewal dates.
  • Delivery instructions: update account-level and address-specific instructions.
  • Payments and billing: ask about unrecognized charges, view gift card balances and check refund status.

The assistant already compared products, tracked prices, recommended gifts and could buy an item when it hit a target price. Amazon lists photo search, Amazon Lens and Lens Live, "Update Me When" alerts for restocks, and up to a year of price history among the existing features.

How to use it

Tap the Alexa icon in the Amazon Shopping app. On desktop, it sits at the top of the screen. Amazon's page gives no price for Alexa for Shopping, and says nothing about charges for the new actions.

The numbers Amazon gives

Amazon says more than 400 million customers used Alexa for Shopping in the last 12 months. It also says use of its agentic features, where the assistant takes actions for you, grew more than eight times since the start of the year. Both figures are Amazon's own, and the page does not define what counts as a user.

This is separate from the Alexa+ assistant on Echo devices. For that product, see Alexa Plus pricing.

What to watch

Account actions such as billing questions and refunds are where mistakes cost money. Amazon does not say whether the assistant asks you to confirm changes before it makes them, so check what it does with your first request.
