Yes. NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook, the same product under a new name. Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on July 16, 2026, and says in its announcement that it is the same standalone product with a new name and logo.
Your sources, notebooks and shared links carry over. The rename matters mostly because Google is tying the product more closely to the Gemini app and to Google Search.
NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook: what Google said
Josh Woodward, VP of Google Labs, Gemini app and AI Studio, wrote the July 16 post. Google says Gemini Notebook "remains a standalone product" for research, and the new name reflects how it will work across the Google ecosystem. The Workspace Updates post of the same date says the change covers Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and people using personal Google accounts.
Google's own help pages now use only the name Gemini Notebook, as of October 27, 2026.
What changed and what did not
Google's Workspace post says:
- The new name and logo roll out across interfaces "over the next several weeks" from July 16, 2026.
- Admins do not need to do anything. Automatic redirects keep existing shared notebooks and links working.
- Mobile users may need to update the app.
The announcement also lists new capabilities. Each notebook gets a secure cloud computer, which lets Gemini Notebook write and run code to analyze data grounded in your sources. As of July 16, Google said this was available to Google AI Ultra subscribers and to Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access. All Pro users on the web were to get it "over the coming weeks". Google also said notebooks are coming "soon" to AI Mode in Search, and that you can already open and create notebooks in the Gemini app, synced with the standalone product.
Google says the product has more than 30 million users and over 600,000 organizations. It launched at Google I/O 2023 as Project Tailwind.
Is Gemini Notebook free?
Google's Gemini plans page lists Gemini Notebook under the free plan, at $0 a month, as of October 27, 2026. The announcement itself says nothing about pricing, and Google did not announce a price change with the rename.
| Plan | Price (as of October 27, 2026) | Gemini Notebook, per Google |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 a month | Listed, with no extra limits stated |
| Google AI Plus | $4.99 a month | More Audio Overviews and notebooks than Free |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99 a month | 5x more Audio Overviews and notebooks than Free |
| Google AI Ultra | From $99.99 a month | "Highest limits and best model capabilities" |
Usage limits
Google's usage limits page gives multiples, not counts. As of October 27, 2026, accounts without a plan get "standard limits", AI Plus gets two times that, AI Pro four times, and AI Ultra 5x or 20x the Pro level depending on the subscription. Usage resets every five hours until a weekly limit is reached. Google says limits may change.
The page gives no figures for notebooks, sources per notebook or chats per day, and it does not cover Workspace plans. The help page on creating notebooks adds that each notebook is independent, so it cannot draw on several notebooks at once, and that personal Gmail accounts can share a notebook with up to 50 people.
What we don't know yet
Google has not published exact notebook or source counts for each plan in the pages we read. It also has not given a date for notebooks in AI Mode in Search. The Gemini release notes list a study notebooks update on August 19, 2026, but do not mention the rename.
