Le Chat vs ChatGPT comes down to price and how much each plan gives you. Mistral's Le Chat has a free plan and a Pro plan at $14.99 a month. ChatGPT's paid plans start at $8 a month for Go and $20 for Plus. This comparison is based on Mistral's pricing page and OpenAI's pricing page, as of November 3, 2026.
One naming change first. Mistral's product page now reads "Mistral Vibe (formerly Le Chat)" and says "Le Chat is now Vibe." It says existing conversations, settings and plans carry over, and the web app is still at chat.mistral.ai. This article says Le Chat because that is what people search for.
The comparison is based on the products' docs and published pricing, not hands-on testing. It has one gap. OpenAI's pricing page that we could read covers ChatGPT's plans in the context of its Codex coding tool, and the general chatgpt.com pricing page returned an error when we tried it. So the ChatGPT side below is limited to what the OpenAI page states.
Le Chat vs ChatGPT: plans and prices
| Le Chat (Mistral) | ChatGPT (OpenAI) | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Price not listed on the page. Limited messages, web searches and coding sessions. Basic image generation, 100+ connectors | $0 a month |
| Entry paid plan | Pro, $14.99 a month excluding taxes | Go, $8 a month |
| Mid plan | Pro (same plan) | Plus, $20 a month |
| Heavy use | Pro with pay-as-you-go credits | Pro, from $100 a month ($100, $200 or $500) |
| Team | $24.99 per user a month excluding taxes | Business, $20 per user a month billed annually (2 or more users), $25 billed monthly |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Enterprise and Edu: contact sales |
Mistral has fewer steps. There are four plans, and Pro is the only individual paid plan. OpenAI has more rungs, from $8 up to $500 a month for the biggest Pro plan.
What Le Chat Pro gives you
Mistral says Pro is for "complex tasks, deeper reasoning, and all-day coding." According to its pricing page, Pro includes:
- More messages and web searches than Free, and faster responses.
- Full coding access in the command line, an IDE or on the web.
- Spreadsheet and slide generation.
- Better image generation and editing.
- $15 a month in API credits.
- Up to 15GB of library storage, unlimited scheduled tasks and up to 1,000 project folders.
Verified students at accredited higher education institutions can get Pro for $5.99 a month, according to the page's FAQ. It lasts up to 12 months and is for people who haven't used Vibe or Le Chat before.
Team adds higher limits, up to 30GB of storage per user, domain verification and data export. Enterprise adds private deployments, audit logs, SAML single sign-on and white labeling.
Usage limits
Mistral publishes limits as multiples of the free plan, not as message counts. It lists up to 6x the free messages, up to 5x the web searches and up to 40x the image generation on paid tiers. Pay-as-you-go credits can extend usage beyond the plan, at API rates. All plans are subject to fair usage limits.
OpenAI's page gives numbers for Plus and standard Business, for coding in Codex only. They are estimates of local messages per five-hour period and vary by model: for example 15 to 160 for GPT-6.1 Sol and 350 to 3,000 for GPT-6 Luna. Weekly limits may also apply. The page says Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit. It states no usage limits for Free or Go.
Those numbers are not comparable with Mistral's multiples. Neither company publishes a daily message cap for plain chat on the pages we read.
What ChatGPT's plans give you
Per OpenAI's page, Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna at standard speed in the desktop app, subject to rollout. Plus adds the GPT-6.1 Sol model, Codex on the web, command line, IDE extension and iOS, and cloud integrations such as automatic code review and Slack. Usage can be extended with ChatGPT credits.
Business adds a dedicated workspace with admin controls, single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, and no training on business data by default. Enterprise and Edu add priority request processing, SCIM, audit logs and data retention and residency controls. Which costs less
At the individual level, Le Chat Pro at $14.99 sits between ChatGPT Go at $8 and Plus at $20. For teams, Le Chat's Team plan at $24.99 per user a month is close to ChatGPT Business at $25 billed monthly, and $20 on an annual plan.
Price is not the whole story. The plans are built differently: Mistral bundles API credits and coding access into Pro, while OpenAI shares usage between ChatGPT and Codex. Check each company's page before you pay, because plans and limits change. We will compare the free tiers once both publish concrete numbers.
