Key takeaways

  • Cursor released voice chat with agents on November 6 for the Agents Window, the IDE, web and iOS.
  • It is a two-way call on Grok Voice, separate from dictation, which only turns speech into text.
  • Calls have a daily limit, require a signed-in account, and Cursor's pages list no plan or price.

Cursor added voice chat to its agents on November 6. You can now talk to an agent in a realtime voice call on desktop, web and iOS, and it answers out loud while the coding agent works in the chat. It runs on Grok Voice, and Cursor's pages list no extra price.

This is different from dictation, which Cursor already had. Dictation turns your speech into text in the chat box, and you read it and press send. Voice chat is a two-way call: a voice agent takes what you say, hands the coding work to the agent in your chat, and speaks short updates as it goes.

What you can do in a call

According to Cursor, you can describe a change aloud, ask what changed in a diff, check on a run, or search earlier messages and calls with that agent. In a Project that has several workers, you can switch between them by voice. The agent does not read every reply aloud. It picks short progress notes and a brief answer when the work finishes, and the written reply stays in the chat.

Cursor says dictation was previously called Voice Mode. It now lives under that name only for speech to text, with Cmd+Shift+Space in the IDE.

How to start one

  1. Open an agent chat. In the IDE, the chat needs at least one message.
  2. Clear the chat input, and wait until the agent is idle.
  3. Click the waveform button, "Start voice chat", where Send usually sits, and allow microphone access.

On iOS you can also say "Hey Siri, call Cursor" with the phone unlocked, which starts a call with a new agent. A Live Activity gives you mute and hang up from the Lock Screen.

Limits and privacy

  • You need to be signed in to Cursor. A session that authenticates with an API key can't start a voice chat.
  • There is a daily limit on voice calls. Cursor's docs don't say what it is.
  • A call hangs up after about 10 minutes of silence from you when the agent has no work running.
  • With Privacy Mode on, voice chat runs with zero data retention. Without it, transcripts of cloud agent calls sync to your other devices during the call.
  • The button is hidden for subagents, Project workers, archived chats, Claude Code chats and chats owned by teammates.

Cursor offers five voices: Ara, Eve, Leo, Rex and Sal. They are set in Voice settings.

The open question is cost. Neither the changelog nor the docs mention plans, tiers or what the daily limit is, so check your account before you build a habit around it. Our guide to Cursor's plans shows what each tier included at the last check.
