Key takeaways
- To delete everything, go to account.microsoft.com/privacy/copilot and select Delete all activity history (Apple ID users: Account, Privacy, Clear my history).
- To delete one chat, use the three dots on copilot.com or mobile, or right-click in the Windows and macOS apps.
- Memory and uploaded files are handled separately, and Microsoft stores conversation activity for 18 months by default.
To delete all your chats in Microsoft Copilot, sign in at account.microsoft.com/privacy/copilot and select "Delete all activity history" under "Copilot app activity history." That is how to delete all chats at once, and these steps are for the consumer Microsoft Copilot app and copilot.com, not Microsoft 365 Copilot at work or school. The details below are as of November 1, 2026, from Microsoft's conversation history page.
Copilot has no "select several chats" option on that page. Microsoft describes two ways to delete: one conversation at a time, or your whole history in one go. If you want to delete multiple chats, the practical choices are to repeat the single delete or to clear everything.
Which Copilot these steps are for
Microsoft sells several products under the Copilot name. These steps cover the consumer Microsoft Copilot you use with a personal Microsoft account or an Apple ID: copilot.com, Copilot for Windows, Copilot for macOS and the Copilot mobile app.
They do not cover Microsoft 365 Copilot when you sign in with a work or school account (Entra ID). Microsoft's privacy FAQ also says its text applies only to the older version of the app, and that an updated app was available as of August 18, 2026. Menu names in the newer app may differ.
How to delete one Copilot conversation
First open your history. On copilot.com and in the Windows and macOS apps it is on the left, and you can open the sidebar with the icon at the upper left. On mobile, open the menu.
| Where you use Copilot | How to delete one conversation |
|---|---|
| copilot.com | Select the three dots next to the conversation, then select Delete. |
| Copilot for Windows or macOS | Right-click the conversation, then select Delete. |
| Copilot mobile app | Press the three dots next to the conversation, then select Delete. |
How to delete all Copilot chat history
How you clear everything depends on how you sign in.
- With a Microsoft account: go to the "Manage your Copilot activity history" page at account.microsoft.com/privacy/copilot.
- Sign in if asked.
- Under "Copilot app activity history," select "Delete all activity history."
With an Apple ID: in the Copilot app, go to Account, then Privacy, then "Clear my history."
Microsoft's page does not say how long a deletion takes to show up, or whether copies remain in backups.
Where the privacy dashboard fits
Microsoft's conversation history page does not name a "privacy dashboard." The closest thing is the Microsoft account activity history page above, which is where the delete-all button lives. The privacy FAQ and the Copilot privacy controls page cover the rest of the settings.
What deleting chats does not remove
Chat history is one of several things Copilot can keep. Per Microsoft's privacy pages:
- Memory is separate. Deleting all memory does not delete conversation history, and deleting history is a different action from clearing memory. To clear memory, select your profile icon, then Memory, then "Delete all Memory." Turning personalization off stops Copilot from using memories but leaves past chats viewable.
- Uploaded files are stored for no longer than 18 months and then deleted automatically. Conversations about a file follow the same deletion rules.
- Copilot Vision screenshots and camera images are not stored after the session ends. Text transcripts may be saved, and you can delete them.
- Shared links. If you shared a conversation, anyone with the link can open it. Microsoft's page does not say whether deleting the chat disables the link, so check before you rely on it.
- Training and review. Opting out of training on your conversations covers future conversations only. Microsoft says some conversations get automated and human review for safety, and that an opt-out of human review is not available.
How long Copilot keeps your history
By default Copilot saves your conversations, and Microsoft says it stores conversation activity for 18 months. You can delete individual conversations or your whole history at any time. Microsoft's page says history is kept for signed-in users.
Next steps
If you also want Copilot to forget what it learned about you, clear memory as well, since history and memory are deleted separately. To stop future conversations being used for model training, use the toggles under Privacy settings.
