Key takeaways
- Claude Duet is a US-only research preview on a waitlist, open to Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers.
- Meta says Muse is free for most needs, is live in the US and Singapore, and works in WhatsApp, but it has published no subscription prices.
- Both run on their own cloud computer and ask for approval before sending messages or paying, and neither company has published benchmarks for its agent.
Claude Duet vs Muse comes down to access today. Claude Duet is Anthropic's research-preview agent, open only to US Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers who get in off a waitlist. Meta's Muse is a personal agent that Meta says is free for most needs, and it is already in the US and Singapore. Both do the same job: you message an agent, it works in your apps on its own cloud computer, and it asks before anything that matters.
This comparison is based on the products' docs and published results, as of October 31, 2026. We did not test either product. Neither company has published benchmarks for these agents, so there are no scores to compare.

What each one is built to do
Anthropic describes Duet as a proactive agent. Each morning it reviews your email and calendar, highlights priorities and can start first steps, such as drafting replies for you to review. Larger jobs come back as editable files, like a research brief, financial model, slide deck or dashboard. Your Claude memory, skills and connectors carry over from the first message. Anthropic's help center says it keeps working after you close the app.
Meta describes Muse as an agent that takes work off your plate and turns long-term goals into plans. It can send emails, book travel, fill out forms and negotiate for you, and it also keeps working after the app is closed. It runs inside the Muse app or in WhatsApp, which Duet does not list. Meta's examples are selling a car for more, lowering a bill and adjusting a training plan.
How they handle safety
Both use the same basic design: a separate cloud machine, and a human approval step for risky actions.
Duet shows planned actions and waits before sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting items. When a site needs a password, you type it into a separate form on your device, which Anthropic says is built to keep it out of the chat. Even with approval, Duet cannot trade securities, move money between accounts or use another person's account.
Meta says Muse runs on a dedicated cloud computer, isolated from other users' agents. A second agent on the same machine, called Sentinel, must approve anything Muse sends to the internet. Muse cannot see passwords or payment methods, and you can ask it to forget things. Meta says Muse does not share conversations or VM data with its ad systems, and users can opt out of training use. A Muse Confidential VM, encrypted with a key only the user holds, is promised for later in 2026.
Those are company statements. No outside audit of either design is cited in the docs we read.
Price and limits
Duet costs nothing extra, but it is not free of cost to your plan. Anthropic says usage counts against your five-hour and weekly limits at the same rate as chat, and that background work such as the daily brief counts too. New users get one full reset of both limits, valid until November 30, 2026. Our Claude Duet waitlist article covers how to join.
Muse is cheaper to start, if Meta's wording holds: "free for most needs". Meta has not published subscription prices or what the paid tiers add, so a cost comparison is not possible yet. See is Meta Muse free for what is and is not published. Meta's developer pricing at dev.meta.ai covers API use of its models, such as Muse Spark 1.3 at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. That is a separate product from the consumer agent.
Known limits
Anthropic lists several for Duet: you cannot pick a model, watch or take over its browser, or have it make calls or send texts. It checks accounts at set intervals, so urgent items may wait. Microsoft 365 is not yet available, and some connectors, such as Slack, are limited. Meta's announcement does not list limits for Muse, and its "world's first" claim is its own.
Which one to pick
If you pay for Claude in the US and want an agent tied to your Claude memory and files, Duet is the one to join the waitlist for. If you live in the US or Singapore, want to talk to your agent in WhatsApp, and prefer a free start, Muse is available now. Outside those places, neither is open yet.
Meta has not said which countries follow Singapore, and Anthropic has not given a date for Duet's waitlist to clear or for Team and Enterprise access. Those are the two announcements to watch.
