Apple announced a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen on October 28, the first Mac with Touch, in an announcement of the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display. It comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, starts at $2,899, and ships on Friday, November 6, with preorders open now.
Beyond touch, the laptop moves to a tandem OLED screen, which Apple calls PROLED XDR, and brings the Dynamic Island to the Mac. Apple pitches it partly as an AI machine: it says the M5 Max can run language models with hundreds of billions of parameters on the device.

How Touch works
Touch is on the Mac for the first time. Apple says the touch sensor is built into the display panel, and that a redesigned hinge keeps the screen steady when you tap it. Video calls get stabilization while Touch is in use.
The display
The PROLED XDR panel reaches up to 2,000 nits peak brightness in both HDR and SDR, with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a ProMotion refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz. The screens measure 14.2 and 16.3 inches. An antireflective coating is standard, and a nano-texture glass is optional. Those are Apple's figures.
Chips, memory and AI features
Both sizes use the M5 Pro or M5 Max, with up to 128GB of unified memory and storage up to 16TB. Each GPU core has a Neural Accelerator.
The Dynamic Island, the pill-shaped area at the top of the screen, becomes the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. Apple notes that Spotlight moves there only when Siri AI is available and turned on. Siri AI is in beta in macOS 27.2 for select languages, and Apple says some server-based features have daily usage limits.
Weight and battery
The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before. The 16-inch weighs 4 pounds, 0.7 pound less. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, from its own testing in September 2026, and says it charges to 50% in 30 minutes.

What to watch
Reviews will test whether the touchscreen is useful and how the lighter body handles heat, since Apple's battery and brightness figures are its own. Preorders are open, and the first units arrive November 6.
