Key takeaways
- Siri AI is in beta in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish from October 26.
- Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are due by the end of the year.
- Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS.
Apple said on October 26 that Siri AI now works in six languages, released as a beta with the 27.2 updates of its operating systems. The company announced the change in a newsroom post. Siri AI is still not available in the European Union on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
Apple describes Siri AI as a more capable and personal version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence. This release is mostly about reach: who can use it, and in what language.
Which languages work
Siri AI is available now, in beta, in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple says Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese will follow by the end of the year.
Apple Intelligence with Siri covers a wider list when the device language is set to one of them: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese. German, Italian, Dutch, Danish and Swedish are on that list but not yet on the Siri AI list.
What it needs
Siri AI runs in the beta versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and visionOS 27.2. It needs a device that supports Apple Intelligence, set to a supported language, and a user aged 13 or older.
Some server-side features, Siri AI among them, have daily usage limits. They vary by feature, request complexity and system demand. Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee in the future, and gave no price.
What it does
Apple lists four abilities:
- Finding information across messages, email and photos, which Apple says it does while preserving privacy.
- Taking actions in apps, such as drafting an email or editing and sharing photos.
- Answering questions or acting on what is on the screen.
- Giving current information on a wide range of topics.
The EU gap
Apple says Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, and that it is working with the EU to find a way forward. The post does not say whether macOS or visionOS are affected. Apple gave no date.
Watch for the four languages promised by year end, for the price of the paid tier, and for whether the EU rollout gets a date.
