Key takeaways
- A Reddit search RSS feed uses search.rss with q for the words and sort=new for fresh posts, and restrict_sr=on keeps it inside one subreddit.
- Exact phrases, OR queries, weekly top results and limit=100 all returned working feeds in tests on November 4, 2026.
- AyeWatch runs the same kinds of Reddit search and uses AI to alert only on posts that match a plain-English rule, without RSS output or comments.
A Reddit search RSS feed is built from https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q= plus your words and &sort=new, and it hands your reader every new post on Reddit that matches. It is a cheap way to follow talk about an AI model, a coding agent or your own tool across thousands of communities. The weak spot is noise, which is why tools like AyeWatch add an AI filter on top of the same kind of Reddit search.
All formats here were tested with curl on November 4, 2026.
Building the query
Reddit's search syntax carries over into the feed. Spaces become +, and quotes become %22.
| Goal | Feed URL |
|---|---|
| Every new post mentioning a word | https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=claude&sort=new |
| An exact phrase | https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=%22claude+code%22&sort=new |
| Either of two names | https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=claude+OR+chatgpt&sort=new |
| A phrase inside one subreddit | https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/search.rss?q=%22rate+limit%22&restrict_sr=on&sort=new |
| The most upvoted matches this week | https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=claude&sort=top&t=week |
| More than 25 results | add &limit=100 |
Two parameters do most of the work. sort=new turns the feed into a stream of fresh posts instead of Reddit's relevance order. restrict_sr=on keeps a subreddit search inside that subreddit; without it, Reddit searches everywhere. In our test, every one of the results from the restricted feed came from the right community.
Adding it to a reader
Build the URL, open it in a browser tab first to make sure it loads, then paste it into Feedly, Inoreader, NetNewsWire or whatever reader you use. The feed is Atom, which every mainstream reader accepts as RSS. Each entry has the post title, the author, the subreddit and the post text, so you can skim without opening Reddit. Give each search its own feed and folder so a noisy query does not drown a quiet one.
What AI watchers use it for
- Launch reactions. A phrase feed for a new model name shows the first hands-on posts as people write them.
- Limit and outage complaints. Searching "rate limit" inside a tool's own subreddit picks up the threads where users report hitting caps.
- Your own product. A feed on your product name is a free mention tracker.
- Comparisons. An OR query across two rival tools pulls in head-to-head posts.
The noise problem
Reddit's search is a keyword match, and a loose one. A one-word query in our test returned posts from dozens of unrelated subreddits, some only loosely tied to the word. Model names make it worse: many are common words or human names. Quotes and a subreddit restriction help, but you still read every match yourself.
There are reliability issues as well. Reddit answered rapid requests with HTTP 429, a default curl user agent got a 403, and the company said on October 29, 2026 that it will move toward a mostly logged-in site, starting with tests outside the U.S. Its announcement did not say what happens to RSS.
Adding an AI filter
AyeWatch takes the same two searches, across Reddit or inside one subreddit, and puts a language model between the results and you. You type the search, then write a rule in plain English under Only alert me about, such as "people reporting a bug in the new release, not memes or general praise". AI reads each new post and alerts you only on those that fit. Search monitors accept quotes and OR, just like the feed.
Alerts land in the AyeWatch feed and as push notifications, and paid plans can send them to Slack, Discord, email or a webhook, which suits a team channel that tracks community feedback. There is a free preview without a card, and paid plans start at $9 a month.
What it will not do: produce an RSS link, read comments, or show karma and sentiment scores. If you want to read the full stream yourself, or you need comment-level data, the Reddit search RSS feed is the better fit. If you want the handful of posts worth acting on, use the filtered alert.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an RSS feed of a Reddit search?
Use https://www.reddit.com/search.rss?q=YOUR+WORDS&sort=new. Wrap a phrase in quotes, encoded as %22, for an exact match.
How do I search only one subreddit in a feed?
Use /r/NAME/search.rss?q=QUERY&restrict_sr=on&sort=new. Without restrict_sr=on, Reddit searches the whole site.
Can AyeWatch filter Reddit search results with AI?
Yes. A Search or Search in subreddit monitor takes a plain-English rule, and AI reads each new post and alerts only on the matches.
