Key takeaways
- Axios reported on November 4, 2026 that OpenAI is acquiring Pierre Computer; terms were not disclosed.
- OpenAI plans to integrate Pierre's Code Storage, a Git-based store for machine-generated code, into Codex.
- Code Storage's named customers include Lovable, Poke, Anything, Bolt, Amp and Parahelp.
OpenAI is acquiring Pierre Computer, a startup that sells Git storage built for software agents, and plans to fold its Code Storage product into Codex, according to Axios, as relayed by Unite.AI. Terms were not disclosed. Neither company's own pages mention the deal yet, so this rests on the Axios report.
Codex writes code, and code lives in Git. Owning the storage layer means OpenAI would not depend on GitHub, which belongs to Microsoft, for where its agents keep their work. Unite.AI says Codex already uses Pierre's technology.
What Code Storage is
Pierre describes Code Storage on code.storage as Git infrastructure for code and other machine-generated files. It offers native Git clone, push and fetch, SDKs for TypeScript, Python and Go, webhooks, Git LFS support and a sync engine for GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket.
The page lists a repository size limit of 32TB, 30 or more concurrent writes and a 99.99% SLA. As read on November 4, 2026, storage costs $0.005 per GB per hour while a repository is hot (touched in the last 7 days) and $0.0002 per GB per hour when cold. Pushing data in costs $0.06 per GB and cloning or fetching costs $0.15 per GB.
Named customers include Lovable, Poke, Anything, Bolt, Amp and Parahelp. Pierre also publishes open-source projects called Diffs, Trees and DiffsHub, which Unite.AI says will stay open source.
How it fits with OpenAI's own Git work
Unite.AI reports that on November 2 OpenAI published an engineering post about Pando, its own Git backend for its monorepo, and says OpenAI is exploring ways to make that technology available to users. Reading the post itself was blocked, so those details come from Unite.AI's summary. It is not yet clear whether Pando and Code Storage would be merged or run side by side.
What we don't know yet
- The price and structure of the deal.
- Whether Code Storage stays available to customers who also compete with OpenAI, such as Lovable and Bolt.
- When the integration reaches Codex users.
Watch for an announcement from OpenAI or Pierre that confirms the terms and says what happens to existing customers. For background on the tool, see our piece on whether Codex is open source.
