Midjourney is not free. As of October 28, 2026, the cheapest way in is the Basic plan at $10 a month, and Midjourney's help center says no free trial is currently available on Discord or on the midjourney.com website. The only free option it documents is a limited trial in the separate niji · journey app on iOS and Android.
If you searched "is midjourney free" hoping for a no-cost way to try it, that is the whole answer. The details below cover what each paid plan costs, what you get for the money, and the few ways to bring the bill down.
Is Midjourney free to try?
Not on the main service. The help center's Free Trials article, last updated on December 10, 2025, reads: a limited trial is available on the niji · journey app, and no free trial is available in Discord or on midjourney.com.
niji · journey is a separate mobile app. The article does not say how long the trial lasts or how many images it allows, so we can't tell you. Treat any other number you see online, such as "25 free images", as unconfirmed. Midjourney's own docs don't mention it.
Every Midjourney plan is a subscription that renews on its own, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. Yearly billing is the default at checkout, which means the full year is charged upfront unless you click the monthly tab first.
Midjourney pricing: what each plan costs
These prices come from Midjourney's Comparing Midjourney Plans article, last updated on May 18, 2026, and were read on October 28, 2026.

Paying for a year upfront takes 20% off the monthly price.
What Fast time and Relax mode mean
Midjourney sells GPU time, the time its graphics chips spend making your images. Fast time is the monthly allowance. Unused Fast time does not carry over, and it resets when the subscription renews.
Midjourney says one image prompt usually takes about one minute of GPU time and one video prompt about eight minutes, though upscales and other settings change that. By that rough guide, Basic's 200 minutes covers roughly 200 images, or very little video. Midjourney lists a batch of four SD videos at 8 minutes and four HD videos at 26 minutes.
Relax mode does not use Fast time. Your jobs wait in a queue, and the docs say waits can run from 0 to 30 minutes. Relax is for unlimited images on Standard, Pro and Mega. Unlimited SD video in Relax is limited to Pro and Mega. Basic has no Relax mode, so when Basic's Fast time runs out, you buy more at $4 an hour or wait for the next renewal.
How to get more Fast time without paying more
You still need a subscription. Midjourney's Earning Free Fast Time article says the top 2,000 members who rate the most images each day get one extra hour of Fast time. Surveys sometimes pay out Fast time too. Awarded time expires 30 days after it is given.
Can you use Midjourney images commercially?
Yes, on any plan. Midjourney says you own what you create, even if you cancel. One exception: a business grossing more than $1,000,000 a year must be on Pro or Mega to use the images commercially. If you upscale another user's image, it still belongs to its creator. Midjourney's commercial use article has the details, and it says it can't offer copyright advice.
Which plan makes sense
Basic at $10 is enough to try it. Heavy use goes through Fast time quickly, so Standard at $30 is the first plan with unlimited image generation in Relax mode. Pro at $60 adds Relax for SD video and Stealth mode, which keeps your images off the public site. Stealth is only on Pro and Mega.
Check the Comparing Midjourney Plans page before you pay. Midjourney says plan availability and features are subject to change.
