Key takeaways
- Settings > Billing and usage in the Warp app shows the included allowance, purchased balance and reset date.
- The Warp Agent CLI has /usage for the account panel and /cost for the latest response's usage.
- UsageAtlas, a free open-source desktop app, shows Warp's reported balance and reset beside Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other tools.
How to check Warp AI usage: open Settings > Billing and usage in the Warp app for your balance and reset date, or type /usage in the Warp Agent CLI. If you also run Claude Code, Codex or Cursor and want every meter in one window, UsageAtlas is the free desktop app that adds Warp to that view.
Warp has five places that report usage, and each answers a slightly different question. Here they are, from the widest view to the narrowest.
1. Billing and usage in the desktop app
Open Settings, then Billing and usage. According to Warp's billing docs, this screen lists your included allowance, any purchased balance and the date your included usage resets. It is the account-level answer, and the one to check before you start a long agent task.
It also tells you which unit your plan uses. Some accounts are billed in dollars, others in credits, and the display follows your billing terms.
2. Turn usage under each response
Every agent response carries a usage figure underneath it. Where Warp has the detail, expanding a model shows input, output, cache-read and cache-write tokens, plus any web searches. This is the view for spotting which kind of request costs the most.
3. Conversation usage
A summary for the whole conversation adds the turns together and links back to account usage. Handy after a long refactor, when you want to know what the entire thread cost rather than one reply.
4. Commands in the CLI
The Warp Agent CLI docs list three tools:
/usageopens a read-only panel with your plan, balances, consumption and billing links. It is account-level, not per conversation.- The statusline shows the running total for the current conversation once usage is reported.
/costshows or hides the elapsed time and usage of the latest response.
5. UsageAtlas, outside Warp
The four views above all live inside Warp. UsageAtlas is the option for when you are somewhere else. It is a free, open-source app for Windows, macOS and Linux that tracks AI coding tools side by side.
To add Warp:
- In Warp, go to Settings > Cloud platform > API keys and create a personal key.
- In UsageAtlas, open Settings > Sources, expand Connect under Warp and paste the key.
- Choose Save and check, then open the Limits page.
Limits shows monthly use, Warp's reported reset and add-on balances, with personal and workspace pools kept apart. You can set a low-capacity alert for any window where the allowance is known, as long as the app stays running in the tray.
Which view to use
| Question | Best place |
|---|---|
| How much is left this month? | Billing and usage, or /usage |
| What did that last reply cost? | Turn usage, or /cost |
| What did this whole session cost? | Conversation usage, or the statusline |
| How does Warp compare with my other tools today? | UsageAtlas Limits page |
| Will I get a warning before I run out? | UsageAtlas low-capacity alert |
Things that trip people up
Credits are not prompts. Warp says a credit is a usage unit, not a token or a fixed number of prompts, so a quick question and a sprawling agent task can cost very different amounts.
Regular shell commands are free of AI charges. Only agent work and AI features such as Generate draw on your balance.
UsageAtlas reads balances and resets for Warp, not per-request history. If you need token-level detail for a single Warp session, the turn and conversation views inside Warp are where that lives, and for Warp-only users they may be enough on their own.
UsageAtlas needs no account for local tracking, and it does not read your prompts or responses. The key you paste stays in your operating system's encrypted storage.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Warp usage page?
