## What Grok 4.7 is

xAI's [model page](https://docs.x.ai/developers/models/grok-4.7) describes `grok-4.7` as a model for coding, agentic tasks and knowledge work. It takes text and image input and returns text. It supports reasoning, function calling, structured outputs and the Batch API.

You choose how hard it thinks with a reasoning effort setting: low, medium, high or xhigh. High is the default. On the Responses API, the model always returns encrypted reasoning content, even if you don't ask for it, according to the [release notes](https://docs.x.ai/developers/release-notes).

Grok 4.7 is generally available on the xAI API under the name `grok-4.7`, and on the US regional endpoint. xAI's announcement is dated September 21, 2026. The docs list three regions: us-east-1, us-west-2 and us-central-1.

There is also Grok 4.7 Fast. The release notes say it is the same model at twice the standard token rates (1.5 times for long-context requests), and it is only offered in Cursor and Grok Build, not in the public API. Those products bill it through their own plans. xAI's announcement describes the fast variant as producing output at twice the speed for twice the price.
