Key takeaways
- Factory Droid meters individual plans with independent 5-hour, 7-day and 30-day rolling windows and offers Droid Core as a separate open-weight pool.
- Claude Code on Pro and Max uses a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit shared with the Claude apps, with usage credits as the way past a limit.
- UsageAtlas, free and open source, shows Claude Code history and Factory's Standard and Core windows in one desktop app.
Factory Droid vs Claude Code comes down, on the usage side, to clocks and model choice: Droid checks three rolling windows and lets you drop to a cheaper open-weight pool, while Claude Code on a Pro or Max plan runs on a five-hour session limit plus a weekly limit shared with the Claude apps. If you use both, a desktop tracker like UsageAtlas puts the two sets of limits side by side, so you can see which one is closer to its reset.
Two agents, two metering models
Both tools are terminal-first coding agents sold on a monthly plan, and both stop you when a window fills. The difference is in how they count and what you can do next.

How Droid counts
Factory meters individual plans in Standard Credits, drawn down according to the model you pick and a multiplier Factory lists for each model. Its three windows run independently, and a request needs room in all of them. When the Standard pool is spent, Droid Core, a set of open-weight models with its own separate Rate Limits, keeps you working at no extra cost. Extra Usage is prepaid credit that does not expire.
That design rewards model discipline. Running routine edits on a Core model leaves more Standard headroom for the hard problems.
How Claude Code counts
Anthropic's help center describes a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit on Pro and Max, shared across Claude and Claude Code, with warnings as you get close. Pro and Max users can turn on usage credits to keep going after a limit, or wait for the reset. Inside the terminal, /usage shows plan usage bars and a breakdown of what counted against them, computed from history on that machine.
Claude Code's lever is effort and context rather than a second model pool: shorter sessions and lighter settings stretch the same allowance.
Which one runs out first
That depends on your work, and neither vendor publishes fixed allowances you can compare. The honest way to answer it is to watch both for a week. Note when each window fills and what you were doing at the time.
This is where running two built-in views gets clumsy. UsageAtlas is a free, open-source desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that reads Claude Code's local history for tokens and estimated cost, and connects to Factory with an API key for the Standard and Core windows and their reported resets. For Factory it shows capacity, not per-session tokens, which stay in Droid's /stats.
When Claude Code alone is the better fit
If you only want Anthropic models and already pay for Claude, Claude Code's single pool is simpler to reason about than Droid's two pools and three windows. Droid makes more sense when you want to mix labs' models or fall back to cheaper open-weight ones mid-week.
