## Key takeaways

- Anthropic launched Claude Duet on October 21, 2026 as a research preview, available by waitlist to US Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers.
- Duet is a separate app built around Claude Opus 5.5 that works in the cloud and sends a morning brief from your connected apps.
- It is included in paid plans at no extra cost and counts against your usage limits, and it asks before sending messages, paying, signing or deleting.

Claude Duet is not out for everyone yet. Anthropic launched it on October 21, 2026 as a research preview, and access is by [waitlist](https://claude.com/product/claude-duet), starting with Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers who have a US-based account. Anthropic describes the Claude Duet waitlist as rolling out in waves, with no promised date for any one person.

Duet is a separate app, not a mode inside the Claude chat window. You message it like a colleague, it works in the background, and it asks before it does anything you can't undo. Anthropic's [launch post](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet) is the main source for what follows, along with the company's [help center article](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/17631495-get-started-with-claude-duet).

## What Claude Duet is

Anthropic calls Duet a proactive agent. Each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across the apps you connect, such as email and calendar. During the day it drafts replies, tracks tasks and flags what needs your decision. Anthropic says it is aimed at professionals and small business owners.

It runs in the cloud, on its own virtual computer, so it keeps working after you close the app. Larger jobs, such as a financial model or a slide deck, come back as finished files in a Make tab. It is built around Claude Opus 5.5, and you can't pick a different model.

## Who can get in, and how to join

As of October 31, 2026, Anthropic's help center lists these requirements:

- A Pro, Max or Ultra plan. Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet, and Anthropic says it plans to add them later.
- A Claude account based in the US.
- An invitation from the waitlist.

The email address you give on the waitlist has to match your Claude account and the Apple or Google account on your phone. To join, open the Claude Duet product page, choose the waitlist, and enter your name, email, plan, phone type (iPhone or Android) and what you would hand off to it. When your invitation arrives, you finish setup on your phone and sign in with your Claude account.

The apps are on iOS and Android, and Duet is also available on claude.ai.

One inconsistency: Early coverage described the launch as Pro and Max only, while Anthropic's launch post and help center list Ultra too. Anthropic [renamed Max 20x to Ultra](https://claudegpt.si/news/claude-max-ultra-plans-renamed) on October 30, which may explain the mismatch. We have not confirmed that.

## What Claude Duet costs

Nothing extra during the preview. Duet is included in Pro, Max and Ultra, according to the help center. It draws on the same five-hour and weekly usage limits as chat, at the same rate, and its background checks count too. Anthropic says it checks connected accounts every few hours to save usage.

Anyone admitted gets one full reset of both the five-hour and weekly limits, available until November 30, 2026.

## What it asks before doing

Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, Duet shows you the action and waits for your approval. If you are away, it finishes other steps and comes back for approval later.

Some things are off-limits even with approval: trading securities, moving money between accounts and accessing someone else's account. Anthropic's [safety and privacy post](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet-safety-privacy-and-security), published October 23, says purchases use a one-time virtual card limited to one merchant and amount, and that Duet never sees your passwords or sign-in tokens.

## What Anthropic says it can't do yet

These are the company's own caveats:

- It may misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent.
- It is weaker at personal errands, such as booking tickets.
- You can't watch it work in its browser or take the browser over.
- It can't make phone calls or send texts. It can send email from connected accounts with your approval.
- Microsoft 365 is not available yet.
- Defenses against prompt injection, where hidden text on a page tries to steer an AI, are strong but not perfect. Anthropic says so itself.

Anthropic says an external firm penetration-tested Duet and that it is covered by the company's public bug bounty program. Those are the company's statements, and we have not seen the test results.

## What to watch

The thing to watch is the waitlist. Anthropic has not said how many people it will admit or how fast, or when Team, Enterprise or non-US accounts get access. The reset offer ends on November 30.
